CREE works in biologically diverse areas, which we define as any tract of land rich in wildlife or natural resources that may or may not be around a protected area. This includes lands in and around national parks and reserves.
However, 90% of the terrestrial earth is NOT under the protected area system. These areas have resources that communities can derive benefits from in a sustainable manner. Often, they experience acute political strife and turmoil and receive little attention by mainstream NGO's. In IUCN terms, CREE seeks to fund projects that fall anywhere between Category I (Strict Nature Reserve/Wilderness Area) and Category IV (Managed Resource Protected Area). However, we place emphasis on multi-use protected areas.
Through our vast connection of professional colleagues in the developing world, we have put together a portfolio of projects which span Latin America, Asia and Africa.
