Emmanuel is the Founder of the non-profit Mazingira Initiative Tanzania. Mazingira’s goal is to improve livelihoods of the rural population by empowering them to achieve sustainable development and adapt to climate change challenges through sustainable resource use. Mazingira accomplishes this through environmental education, beekeeping in Diloda forest areas, and minimizing human – hippo conflicts in Lakes Bassotu and Manyara.
Working with Shambani Solutionsa Tanzania, a community organization focused on agribusiness, enabled Emmanuel to accumulate significant knowledge and experience working with and understanding local communities. His passion and love of working in rural areas was nurtured during his services at National Institute for Medical Research-Lake Zone Office as a researcher assessing the prevalence of sexual transmitted diseases along the shores of Lake Victoria and big plantations.
He then moved to Manyara Region, Northern part of Tanzania where worked at The Open University of Tanzania as a courses instructor and coordinator. This enabled him to travel extensively throughout the region, which is dominated by pastoral societies like the Datoga, agro-pastoralists like the Iraqw, and hunter-gatherers the Hadzabe.
Aside from his outstanding community leadership and human relation skills gained working with the Tanzania Public Service Commission as a Human Resources Officer, Emmanuel is driven by the need to find a way to strike the balance between economic development and natural resources protection. Emmanuel holds a Bachelor degree of Commerce and Management from University of Dar es Salaam and currently pursuing his postgraduate studies in Community Economic Development through distance learning at The Open University of Tanzania.
